Dispersed Camping on National Forest Lands Motor vehicle use off designated roads for the purpose of dispersed camping is permitted for up to 300 feet* from the centerline of the road allowing the same vehicles the road allows and the same season as the road is open when it is safe to do so without causing resource damage.
This applies to all NFS roads with the exceptions listed below.
Parking Statement A designation of a road includes parking a motor vehicle on the side of the road up to 30 ft from edge of the road surface when it is safe to do so without causing damage to NFS resources or facilities, unless prohibited by state law, a traffic sign or an order (36 CFR261.13 (h)).
