What is Free Dispersed Camping?
Dispersed camping, also known as boondocking or wild camping, is camping outside of developed campgrounds on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) or US Forest Service (USFS). These free camping spots typically have no amenities like water, toilets, or hookups, but offer a more primitive and adventurous camping experience.
Most dispersed camping on BLM and USFS land is completely free, though some areas may have restrictions on length of stay (typically 14 days) and may require you to camp a certain distance from roads and water sources.
